Making Sure Your Pet Has A Safe Flight

November 9, 2011 at 5:08 pm , by admin

There was once a time when pets were not allowed on airlines. However, times have changed as well as policies. Today, just about any airline will allow pets to board airplanes. Most airlines will charge additional fees to allow pets to fly. Airlines also require pets to board in appropriate carriers. There are certain airline approved pet carriers that must be used by people taking their pets with them on flights.

There are thousands of different pet carriers ranging in price from as low as $12 to $300. The price will depend on the manufacturer, the size of the carrier, and the special features of the carrier. For example, if you have a medium sized dog and you want a hard carrier for them, then you can look to spend at least $30 for a basic kennel. If you have a small dog such as terrier or poodle than you can expect to spend at least $12.

Any airline you choose to fly with will provide you with a list of approved carriers for your pets. These approved carriers include those made by Sherpa, PetFlys, Travel-Aire, Remington, and Argo. All these brands are accepted by most airlines and can be purchased for under a $150 if you shop in the right place. Approved pet carriers must be a certain width and height and require reservations to make sure your pet has somewhere to stay on the flight. It will also be a great idea to make sure your pet has insurance in case of an emergency.
